Energy & Waste Manegement Strategy Review 2002

It is now commonly accepted by the majority of scientist's world wide that greenhouse gas concentrations in
the atmosphere has already led to a warming of the earth's surface. If the volume of greenhouse gases
produced by human activity continues to increase further warming is predicted.
CSIRO predicts an annual average warming of 0.4 to 2 Deg C over most of Australia by 2030 (relative to 1990),
with a likely to increase to 1 Deg to 6 Deg C by 2070 (CSIRO, 2001). The actual change will vary depending on the
location within Australia. However, climate change of this magnitude will have a social, economic and
ecological impact.
