It is important for people entering into soil carbon contracts to appreciate that while soil carbon levels can be increased, the levels can also fall if adverse climate conditions are encountered. As a legal contract has been entered into, there is an obligation to supply. Under these circumstances, the only way to supply is to purchase carbon contracts in the open market. There is the added risk that the market price may be higher than at the time of the original contract.
